Wow! look what I found, is what one of my friends said along with several picture texts as he is uncovering a Flying A sign on his property. It was covering an old well. He was very excited because he is also a gas and oil collector. The sign cleaned up even better than it is in the last picture. I remember walking around the property with him after he bought it and pointed off a trail and said there is the original well for the property back in the day. It was covered in overgrowth and had a small wooden structure over it. The sign was under the structure covering the hole.

I had a Hudson/Terraplane sign from 1937 that was a well
cover find. Must have been a common idea.

Same thing for me. Back in the 70's I bought a near mint 6' Gulf sign that covered a well. Guy insisted that he had to have $6 for it!! I gave him some old sheet metal to recover the well.
