I picked this up recently, don't know much about the company but I like the can. If you have any information on them, let me know. Thanks and enjoy!

For history of companies such as Union you can Wikipedia them or use the Google search within OG function which is in the upper right of the page. Red Line is a brand of Union Oil founded in Santa Paula Ca and that symbol for Union was in 20-30s time frame. Click the link for more: http://www.oldgas.com/shoptalk/ubb/Forum4/HTML/001418.htmlThat can looks to be in pretty good shape for its age. I am sure that one of our OG members who happens to live in the city of Santa Paula will chime in once he gets his shorts and sandals on. It takes him a while to get going! And I suspect you might be baiting him.

Here are a couple of early Canadian Union cans with a US one pound tin in-between. Cheers, Don.

Don that Aristo can sure is darn nice. What do you think its age is? And in a completely unrelated vein-I see that your showcase is from Iowa City. That is one well travelled piece of furniture. Lovely university town is Iowa City.

Recently I was in SoCal and visited with DB where he was kind enough to show me around SP including an outside tour of the Union Oil Company museum. I think they did not want the likes of us to grace their building! Actually the museum was closed for the day we were there despite DB's attempts to get it open for us. DB's collection is well known to most but he also has a large collection of Union Oil ephemera and he was kind enough to give me three of the Red Line labels that are displayed.

I also am lucky enough to have a Union Oil gas gauge stick... It is a little unusual though, for instead of being the normal wood gas gauge stick... It is made of cardboard and thankfully had never been used... URL=https://imageshack.com/i/fv4tjrj] [/URL]

Single use only item! They were ahead of their time. I like the different levels for different tanks-company as well as round or square tanks. Dick how small is your can BTW? Good things do come in small packages evidently!

Lovely university town is Iowa City. Fred I can't hide anything from you. The Aristo can is probably 1930s. Union Oil of Canada was bought out by British American in 1946. They did come back later as Union Oil of California. The Iowa showcase was bought long ago from minuteman's office when you could afford to buy out of there. Of course he was a lot younger then, lol. Cheers, Don.
