Found this awhile ago I think it's 1940's, my biggest debate is was this an oil or gasoline container? I wish I had the missing cap.

Some of that style can have a date embossed on the bottom.

I would think it was an oil can. I am not aware of companies selling gas in cans like that. The rectangle area was probably used to stencil in what grade of oil was in the can

Agree with Maxwell. That is an oil can. If not i would expect one of them flexiable hoses.
