I purchased a used boat lift on Ebay in Central Wi for use at my cabin. The auction ended and I was the high bidder at 960.01.

The seller had the boat lift listed on craigs list for 2200.00. In the ebay ad he stated that if the boat lift was sold VIA other venues, papers, ect, that the auction would end early.

I have tried to contact him with no response at all. The listing stated that he wanted a cashiers check or cash upon pick up.

Any ideas?

open a ebay case... you'd be surprised what gets resolved once a case is opened.

Remember, opening a case is not always a bad thing, it just means there is a gap somewhere that needs attention.

Ryan, contact Ebay and have them contact the Seller... They will let you know if the lift, was actually sold to you or if the Seller "lost it" or if "it was dropped and broken"...

Not sure what you can do. Sounds like it didn't bring what he wanted. Maybe contact Ebay.
Have someone else contact seller off of craiglist add. Maybe get his plan that way.

GOODLUCK!!

Ebay is no help. I cannot open a case because I have not paid for the item. The seller stated in his description that he wanted a money order or cash upon pickup of the lift.

I called and talked to ebay and they basically told me that there is nothing they can do other than suspend the sellers account.

Any other thoughts? Anybody ever run into this before?

I am thinking about showing up next weekend at his house unannounced with the sheriff... Not sure where that will get me either.

Maybe I should just walk away and spend my time on better things.

...oh, I don't know - I think that might be kinda fun...if nothing else, he might think twice next time, before jerking someone around...

Sheriff can't do anything. You have not paid for it, so you can't say he stole anything. Even ebay says they cannot make someone sell/send you the item. I don't mean to sound unsympathetic. The whole thing is unfortuate. You can buy/sell and be at the closig to sign thepapers and either party can get up and walk away. As the seller, even if you have their earnest money...you have to give it back. As the old adage goes, "It ain't over until it's over."
