Contact him though his Craigslist addy via a family or friends computer & act like a buyer.
One he gives you his address & details to where to pick up,show up & his door to pay for it,but introduce yourself & pay him the ebay price you won it at. smile

Trouble is, if he doesn't want to give it to you at that price, there is nothing you can do about it!

If that happens,he can come home & report him to ebay as a delinquent seller.
They will suspend the sellers account then.

If you really want it, tell him you assume he is upset that it didn't fetch a higher bid and offer him what you would want to pay for it. If you wanted to mess with him, show up with the $960.01 in a cashiers check and pay the balance with a personal check. Tell him you already had the cashiers check done and couldn't get to the bank to do another one. If he takes it, load it up, drive away and cancel payment on your check.

Some good ideas here. I have not tried to call him yet. I do have his phone number, but dont want to give away my area code and phone number quite yet. I think I am going to have my step dad who lives in Minneapolis (different area code and actually closer to the lift) call him off the craigs list add and act interested. At least then I will know the entire story.

Ryan I think if you punch in *67 before entering his number it will hide the number you are calling from.

Request his contact information.
copy and paste item number, click advanced search. Click Find contact information.
fill in user name and item number of seller...click enter!
Ebay will email THEIR contact information to you!!!!
Name, number, town, etc...
From there you can call him....
I wouldnt offer any more than what you bid!!!!
Tell him your going to file complaint with ebay and paypal if he dont complete transaction... Good Luck!

According to ebay, they cannot do anything as I have not paid. I have decided that I am going to paypal the money today. Worst that can happen is paypal will end up refunding me. At least if I go this route ebay can suspend him.

I am actually surprised that with all of the transactions that I have done on ebay that this has not happened more...

I am a member on yellowbullet.com which is a drag racing website. I see posts like this from time to time over there. The membership over there is pretty ruthless. The member having a problem usually posts the guys number and hundreds of guys call/text at all hours of the day for weeks. Not that this is in my plans, but is gives me a chuckle anyway.

Tom
If he does this, doesn't the seller as well receive a notice with all of Ryans contact info as well?

I know about 10 years ago I inquired about a seller I dealt with on ebay, and I got an ebay message revealing the sellers name, address & phone number,as well as showing they were forwarding my same information to him.

If the ebay listing stated that he wanted cash when picked up and didn't say he would accept Paypal it looks like to me that it would be adding fuel to the fire to send him that much money through Paypal. If he did want to sell it for the auction price I would think he would have contacted you and if you send the money to his Paypal account and he wants to keep the lift he then has your money too. I know that Paypal will probably get your money back if you don't get the lift but that might be a real ordeal in itself...I think I would have tried to call the guy first, not sure what difference it would make if he knew who I was. I have had a couple of ebay sellers that I thought were trying to avoid me by not contacting me after an auction just to have them call a week or two later and apologize for being slow. People drive me crazy on deals like this....
