I am at a loss of words right now and don't know what to say but my lifelong friend in this hobby of 40 years, mentor and fellow collector Kyle Moore has passed away. He had been ill for quite a while but was slowly getting better we thought. Kyle had an immense collection which he sold off in 2007, the largest and best this hobby had and will ever see. But Kyle was a great guy, a true human being and would be a great friend to anyone. Goodbye friend, I will deeply miss you Kyle. Thank you for being my friend and a friend to whomever you met. Scott B.

Kyle taught me a lot about this hobby when I started 32 years ago. I knew absolutely nothing about petroliana except that I liked it. He gave me great advise and help and always had patience with newer collectors. A great gentleman who will be missed....

Kyle & his Uncle Bruce Davis, were one of the 1st True Collectors I met when I got started in'78-79. Both were Always friendly & would open doors if they could.
I was Fortunate to see Kyles massive collection many time before it was sold in '07. I know he was working on another & was planning on stopping this year on my way to IG. Should have taken the time last year.
Kyle & Bruce will be missed by many.

Prayers to the Moore family. My father and I have known Kyle since the late 1980's. He was one of the true pioneers.

Back in the 1970's and 1980's there was quite the circle of collectors that circulated with each other in Oklahoma, Kansas and Texas.

Collect small Oklahoma Oil Co.'s 1920's-1940's. Barnsdall, Cushing, Eason, Marland, etc.

RIP Kyle. A true gentleman. On my first trip to Iowa gas when I just started he took the time to talk and walked with me over to a sign I had question about. He explained condition issues and was a wealth of knowledge for a new collector. Several years later he saw me bid on a Gilmore small tin sign. When I lost he came over and said he was the one who made the discovery(one of thousands I'm sure) and sold me one for $100 less than the winning bidder. He will truly be missed. My prayers and thoughts to his family.

Wow!...I am truly shocked. Even as we recognize our mortality, it never feels real or seems possible when this happens. Kyle was legendary even when I began collecting back in the mid 1980s. His name came up in many conversations as having the most superb globe collection in the country. He was always fun, friendly and informative when we crossed paths. Mr. Moore will be greatly missed and no doubt continue to live on in spirit through stories re-told.

Kyle also built the cable TV industry being one of it's major pioneer's back in the 1950s...He was also well known in the big car circles and had at one time a huge collection of the best cars money could by. Kyle was quite a man, and I'm so happy I grew to know him as he was and will always be. Scott B.

So sorry, rip Kyle. I knew Kyle before he got into Gas and oil stuff. He had antique cars and quite a collection of those. Allways a friendly guy, but man did he hate repos. I think his uncle Bruce may have got him interested in petro, as Bruce was setting up at Chickasaw swap as early as 1972. Once about 1974 Bruce had a stack of Mobilgas pump plates about 2 feet high, selling them for $15 each or 2 for $25. I splurged and bought 2, LOL

The news sent chills down my spine. Thanks Scott for posting.

I had the pleasure to first meet Kyle at Barrett-Jackson at Scottsdale in 2013. Great guy and a very knowledgeable collector. Kyle recently did me a favor by bidding on my behalf at an auction on a sign I was interested in because I was unable to attend. A memory that will last a lifetime and a sign that is priceless to me.

My sincere condolences to the Moore family. Kyle will be missed and remembered by many.

I am truly stunned at this sad news. Kyle was one of the first people I met in this hobby in 1981. He always stopped at my home in DeKalb Il with that BIG BUS and would get the neighborhood buzzing. Remember that there were no books , internet, just hard wired phones. Kyle took that place of restoration books and reference guides long before they were printed. He was always generous with his time and with his collection. Several of my early restorations would not have been possible without his great wealth of knowledge in a young hobby. When I could not find a THATS GOOD GULF GASOLINE GLOBE for my Duplex restoration 25 yrs ago he sent me a NOS one and said it looked better on my pump than in his collection. His chief person that restored most of his collection , Nicky Fox must be heart broken. He was another early pioneer that knew his stuff. I would always like to listen to Carroll Sears, Kyle , and Jackie Knott and hear the volumes of history of petroleum collectibles these men had. Kyle by far was the kindest , giving person I have ever met in this hobby. He was THE MAN and don't think anyone will ever take his place. RIP old friend. Thanks for helping a young guy get started and being a true friend . Rob

Sorry to hear about Kyle, met him at Columbus and chatted about a Canadian BA globe he had for sale. Then a few years later I ran into him at a big auction here in southern Ontario, he remembered me and we had a good conversation. Truly a great human. RIP and my condolences to the family. Ted

In 1997 my wife and I got to visit Kyle and his massive collection. I will never forget his kindness and wealth of knowledge he shared. After my wife and I spending several hours viewing the collection and purchasing several pieces, Kyle and his wife took my wife and I down the street to a local restraunt and bought us lunch. He will be missed by many.
RIP from the Cherry family.

Also met him when I first started at a gas bash at Bill Allards. Very nice guy who took the time to talk with you even though he knew nothing about you. Met him again at Iowa, my first trip when my son was about 12, had to love the 5 or 6 Pomeranians though he had in the big bus.

Kyle was great guy and his passing is certainly a loss to many of us in the hobby. I'm proud to say he bought a few pieces from my collection after his major "down-sizing". RIP

I'll always remember that big RV with the matching van behind it. And the one night back in the early 90s he and I were sitting on the tailgate of some ones pick-up after everyone had gone to their room. Doesn't matter what we talked about, it was just a pleasure to even meet the man and to think he would spend that short time talking to me.

I missed not seeing his RV for the last few years, now I will miss seeing him.

I met Kyle in the early 90's when I first set-up at Hershey,I was new to selling after collecting for a few years not knowing others collected too. I saw him looking at signs at a booth in the Chocolate field and asking the seller if he had any dealer signs. after he left I told him I had an Oldsmobile dealer sign at my booth in the green field, He said "lets go for a walk" after walking and chatting thru the looooong fields and arriving at my booth, I pulled out my early Oldsmobile porcelain sign in condition 5-6. Kyle politely said he'd pass as he liked signs in better condition. After small talk and something about him saying "I should have asked you about condition first" he invited me to stop in at his spot later. I stopped by the following day for a visit with him and it was then I found out who Kyle was, seeing his Bus and meeting several other big name collectors, including 2 from MA Bob P. and Terry.
Rest in peace Kyle, you were a big influence on me in my beginning years.

Seems that everyone knew Kyle and spoke well of him. I had my first encounter when I just started attending Iowa Gas. His bus was parked just across from my space. He was kind enough to invite me to sit with him and show me is photo albums. Couldn't believe what I was seeing, especially as a beginner collector.

He will be missed. God Bless!

Kyle was a walking book of knowledge, he could look at a one peice globe and flat out tell you if it was real or fake. When I was just a young kid, I remember watching him get in quite a heated argument with someone who was trying to sell a fake one peice Red Hat globe at a show by me. During the argument, he offered to buy it so he could take it home and destroy it so nobody else would end up getting burnt on it. He always showed up at the shows with some awesome White Eagle cans or something you and I dream about owning. I'll always have great memories of our conversations & the education he gave me. He would always remind me to go back and trace over the places and collections I've found because chances are, I probably missed a peice or two. Thanks Kyle, see you on the other side. Goob
