Does anyone have Shell station photos? Maybe we could turn this into a Shell Station page?

Anthony, have you looked at the thread in the Showcase Forum called "Great Old Pics"... I know it has numerous images of Shell Oil Stations... At 130 pages and growing, I am positive that it already has some of what you are looking for....

Never seen a WEST COAST pump in person, but I zoomed in on the badge in another photo and the badge reads WESCO... no T.

Gilmore's SF SHELL Station pic has Boyle Dayton's on left & right & a WAYNE Boyle Dayton Division in center, All have the rare light fixtures. Puts the date around 1928 after Wayne bought out/into BD.

Here are some pictures from my 30s Shell painting and sign manual. It shows the types of stations and how they were painted.

I bought it on ebay. It is an original piece. If some one were building or restoreing a 30s Shell gas station this book would tell you how every thing is painted inside and out. It even tells you if a lubster was outside it would be painted different than one that was inside.

I remember having that book in my Ebay watch when it was listed, thought it was one of the most interesting of its type I had seen. I have a similar one put out by Socony-Vacuum (Mobil) and feel they are an invaluable guide for restorations with the specifics they contain. Glad you were the one to get it Matt.

Martin,
The similar S-V book I have was put out in the 50's so there is no comparison of the deco styles of the 30's Shell stations being much more beautiful. I would like to leave this thread all Shell so could PM you some pics from my Mobil book if you are still interested. Send me a PM if so!
Thanks,
Darin

"that's some outstanding reference material.... thanks for putting on... never seen anything like that... any idea what date it was made?"

The typed pages have dates. There are different dates ranging from 1932-1937, so I would guess it is from 1937 or 1938.

Thanks Matt... just loved it especially all that art deco designs & paint schemes... its unbelievable how pre-ww2 literature still gets found, probably stashed away collecting dust for 50+ yrs.

I feel lucky to have the book. I had to fight for it. The person who sold it got it from an estate sale.

I did an image search on line and found these.

That "S" looks like the shape of my tanker truck sign late teens early 20's
