I buy and sell on ebay quite a bit. One thing I truly don't understand as a seller is why end the auction early. If the buyer is motivated to buy at a set price I tell him to run the bid up and it's his. Not to mention the security of keeping through ebay. I have never ended an auction early and never will. You want it, bid on it.

This can go both ways... I once offered a guy $200 to end his auction early and sell to me. He refused and told me to bid if I wanted it.
Man was he grumpy when I won the item for $50. I lucked out on that, it can go either way.

I remember the good old days when gold was worth more than rust!
