I just picked up a white with black letteres "No Smoking" sign. It is marked at the bottom "The Texas Company"
I assume this is pre Texaco? Any idea of a possible date for this item? It is about 5" X 18". Not for sale, it will be going on the wall.
I will get a picture for the buy of the week later on.
Thanks

HI, The No Smoking , The Texas Company sign was used in the 1920's-30's, Ref.-- Texaco Collectors Guide - page 60, it also states the measurements are 6"x12". Thanks, Daniel

"The Texas Company" no smoking signs are usually 5"x15" and most aren't dated.
What do you mean pre-Texaco? The gas stations used the "Texaco" brand name from the early days. However, the corporation and some operating companies didn't switch to the "Texaco" name until the mid-1950's. I believe most of these "Texas Company" signs came out of the oil fields and refineries.

Below is a picture of my sign. It is closer to 5X15. It is not dated, what is up with the 10-6-33 date? I am not up to speed on Texaco and my books are all packed up right now. Thanks Wes

Re: "It is not dated, what is up with the 10-6-33 date?"
I assume that was a joke. The commonly seen repop Texaco no smoking signs with the "black T" logos have a date of "10-6-33" in the lower right corner. Some of these signs have been chipped and weathered by unscrupulous dealers to appear old and fool collectors.
