I was watching a show where some tarnished spoons and forks were put into a solution of baking soda and water. The tarnish was removed. I wonder if this would work on brass? Specifically gas nozzles and visible pump manual discharge valves. As you know, hand removal is very time consuming and there are very tight places on pieces that are nearly impossible to reach. I know brass and silver are two different metals...just wondering if anyone has tried baking soda on brass. thanks.

Never tried that but I will. I usually use white vinegar and salt. Soak the piece in that solution for a while and wipe down with very fine steel wool. Works for most tarnish. Sometimes a bit of scrubbing is needed. And, the brass turns a pink color but is easily polished out. A good cold water rinse is necessary to remove any lingering salt.

I'll give the baking soda a try. Thanks.
