Poles were made by many companies. I have brochures showing just poles for sale.

Consider this, would a person in New York, who needed a pole to put up a "Gulf, etc. sign buy a pole from California, or would he buy one from the closest company (to save on the shipping) he could find in his area.

My point is, while when the oil company supplied the pole and the sign to a oil company owned station, it did matter to a small owner station who had to pay for everything. He didn't care what the pole looked like, just what it cost him.
