My dad and I are restoring a wayne 70 pump we are in the process of putting it back together. We are having problems with the one door fitting right. It sets about a 1/2 high from bottom. The other door fits great. We fitted everything before paint and it both doors lined up. Does anyone have some picture of door mount positions and hinges. After paint we started to assembly and ran into this problems.

Try turning the hinges upside down. Should be different on each side.

Try turning the hinges upside down. Should be different on each side. I agree. I am guessing you put the door hinges (that bolt onto the doors) upside down on one side.

You might not like this but try bending the hinges down by pulling down on top of the door with all hinges on and attached with the door open. You are only off 1/2 inch so you should be able to bend it back into place. Don't know how it got off for you after fitting.

Last 70 I did had the same problem. I used an adjustable wrench to grasp the hinge and gingerly bend as needed.
Always looking for more pumps, meters and signs. Some say it is a problem, I say it is a solution

Hinges are cast aluminum and have a definite fatigue point. You will know when you push them past that point as the hinge will break.

I will give it a shot. If anyone else can help let me know. I won't be able to work on it until this weekend.

If they fit before you painted it, they sure didn't magically get out of alignment by themselves! Its a process of elimination. You did SOMETHING different during assembly? Are the same doors on the same sides? Did you have the hinge pieces off the doors? Did you have the swinging pieces off the frame? You did something different and bending metal is not the answer?

How about moving hinges or brackets from one door to another. I agree with Kevin, something is different from the test fit and final assembly.

I was hoping to keep the brackets the way they are because they are painted. Going to work on it this weekend hoping the suggestions keep coming in and I can find a way to make it work. Thanks

It's been a LONG LONG time since I worked on a 70, but seams like the hinges bolt/screw to door brackets on same side of bracket [one side bracket is rotated 180°], not inside & outside.

a little heat and they will bend better without breaking, to much heat and they will melt. I would do them seperately in a vise. Pliars in one hand torch in the other, bend slowly, don't overheat. Wave flame till you feel the pliars bending the metal then remove heat. if metal stops bending use a little more heat. DO NOT FORCE!!!!!!
There is a sweet spot in the temp that allows you to do all kinds of bending. That sweet spot is just a few degrees before melting. Same stuff computers are made of and I have lots of experience straightening computer heads & variators.

Your hinge brackets appear to be mounted right. They are the same as mine. ( one door they point up and the other they point down ). The hinges can only go one way and swing outward. According to YOUR pictures, I would mount the door that sits high with the hinge bracket on the bottom side of the hinge. Maybe, way back a long time ago, a door got mis-drilled by that half inch. DB I don't get the point of rotating a picture. Lay off that beer.

I rotated his top picture to show the different way the Hinge is mounted compared to other mounting.
Left image Hinge is mounted Outside of Bracket. Right image shows Hinge mounted Inside Bracket.

Good idea to include in this thread what the problem was. It may save someone else some time in the future.
