I dunno guys, lettering is all wrong, there is no design flow to the layout. The "GENUINE MOTOR OIL" letters are a flat typeface placed in a circle instead of designed around it. It certainly doesn't match the other ones shown....

I agree. Something seems off. I bought the crushed one and feel it's right lol.
One was withdrawn from auction not that long ago that looked very similar to this one now on ebay

IMO, it is one of 2 cases:

1- Hand painted
2- Decal

I believe it is #2

If you look at the first picture in the ebay ad, and look real close--there appears to be some pitting in the metal above the "N" in genuine, but it is covered by black color?
Maybe I'm seeing things, but I noticed it right away and wondered how that might have happened? Duh! It was an old can when the paint was applied!

my opinion is a stencil paint job with a round of bb pellets for that sweet vintage patina look.

Some quick observations:
1. All the font is too thick everywhere.
2. The "T" in the center of the graphic "MOTOR" is screwed up.
3. The "Harley Davidson Motor Company Milwaukee Wis." looks like they ran out of room almost because their font was too thick.
and on and on
My vote is: FAKE or HOME MADE FANTASY!

Without actually holding it, it's hard to say real or not. But I do know that there are a different Versions of Harley Black and Orange 1 quart cans. There are Different color oranges and also different style lettering on the cans. There is one version that the letters are much thicker and the other version. So it is possible that these may have variations in them also.

Well if its not real someone is going to get burnt.I don't feel too bad for someone who spends this amount of money without knowing of another example. Hope they know better then us. I don't mean to upset anyone but for the most part Harley guys are easy. The winner might not care if its the real deal or not.

Legitimate in that it is actually there! Yes!
Will the buyer follow thru on it?? Unknown!

Are we the victims of a big hoax? I sure hope so!

I think someone is messing with the seller. I bet the good people at ebay are excited about the commision on this one. I bet it goes over 100k before the auction ends.

Has it been 100% determined its not authentic. I blew up photos on my good monitor as best I could and you can see some pitting on one photo, making me fairly confident its NOT a decal....

It does look off in the fact the letters are not wrapped, but the T does not look off compared to some other examples I see.

I am not trying to sound in the Know here at all...just interested in knowing if its real or not. Obviously it looks different than others...

For way less than $200 that logo could be screened on....a decal would be ridiculous....I vote fake, just from the looks of it....the white is way to white compared to the faded body of the can, IMO.

That was entertaining to say the least! This should happen more often with fake items. Maybe it will hit these seller's harder than reporting their items and trying to educate them.

The 2nd auction is a result of a group effort among collectors. Very good job! The stand up thing to do would be to not relist the can but I have to commend the seller for info given in listing. Seller is looking for a payday and has no concern for this hobby.
But it takes all kinds to make the world go round,I guess.

the can is hand stencil painted & fake all other real examples that I examined by hand, the Trade in the Trade mark on the left side of can has a 1" space on the right of the word trade on an original can. The word trade on the can in question is less than 1/4" save your money.
