If he’s not, I still am.... I will try to post pictures tomorrow. Sadly I have a huge project that is taking up all my time so I can't do it today. I also don't want to post it in the wrong place so I'll post it on the For Sale for Offers, Bids UnPriced. I'll let you know when I post it. Thank you

No! someone reproduced them,(had them recast) but in my opinion if they were well done does it make a difference? would you not buy?

Oh, ok. Sorry I misunderstood. If I am collecting, I personally would go for authentic. But there are those that buy what they like; and if authentic is not within their budget, they buy what they can afford.
And then there is the important fact that has been stated on this forum a lot: technology has made it harder in some cases to determine what is authentic. That's why collectors are so important and valuable; they can spot minor details that reveal/distinguish authentic from reproductions.

Interesting point if a base is recast and new will you pay less because new ? if a part is recast for a pump is the pump degraded, worth less?

The answer is yes . Always going to be worth more or cost more with original parts.

Tell that to the man who just restored a roman column or aqua display pump,or VMC 81 Royal Crown, ,answer is relative, cost will always be current market ,if you don't buy it the next person will.I will now get down off my soap box.

I have a restored Roman collumn pump with some after market parts because I could't find originals . In my mind and most other people would agree ,its worth less because it doesn't have all the original Parts .

So you would sell it at a greatly reduce price? please! you said (most people) cater to the other percent when you sell, I love original as well as the next perfectionist but those are almost nonexistent.

I think the price goes down the more after market parts something has or up the less it has . My point is the more original or what we are talking about is original parts there are gives it more value . That being said sometimes we don't have a choice its either after market parts or a pump missing parts .

The only problem with the repo's is that they were not recast from originals just made up -- but they did a good job just not quite 100% which is good so you can spot them

If he’s not, I still am.... I’d take one of those too. Never seen one... Hi Because you mentioned in this thread that you had not seen one, I thought I'd post two pictures: The one that says Phillips Petroleum Company is mine and it weights ~45 lbs. (I found pictures I had taken in April) The one that says: Property of the Phillips Petroleum Company sold on Ebay last year.

WOW My old thread got real busy here. Repop ones are smaller by about 1 inch than the originals as when they try to recast them the cast iron shrinks down.
And yes I'm very interested in still getting one.
Thanks Mike

Here is the version I have on my curb sign. I’ve been told it’s original for the smaller diameter sign such as the 19” Paraffin sign. NFS but would like to hear opinions
