...what's the date on the newspaper?

Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

The paper is glued to the side of the box and rolled up around the pole , I may pull it apart but I keep telling myself not to....

Not The Post-Standard is it John?!
Probably from where the sign was manufactured, huh?

If there is any dating inside that box or on the paper I would also love to know! Either way removing the paper can't hurt the value I would get it unrolled and in a plastic sleeve anyway!

Dave when did you live in Solvay? I grew up in Westvale.
I don't really want to touch the paper by unrolling it,I would leave that option up to the new owner.

John I was born in Syracuse in 1957 and lived in Solvay until 1968. (The end of 4th grade at Sacred Heart.)
We used to sled in our backyard and sometimes over at the Westcott Reservoir. There were always stories of kids shooting too far out and getting into the street each year. At times, sadly, with tragic consequences!

Dave I was born in 1956 in Westvale one block away from the "res" lived on that thing summer and winter. Played pop warner for the Wescott Warriors and that was our home field, sledding in the winter. Then drinking up there when I was old enough. One year in the late 60s or early 70s they drained it,me and my buds snuck in there at night, the thing was massive. I wish I took a camara with me back then.....good times

Neat find. NIB and in amazing shape. Blowing up the zoom on the paper wrap it looks like it says "Muscatine Chamber of Commerce". Muscatine, Iowa?

Seems like the newspaper is drawing more interest than the sign, maybe you should sell it.
