Hello,

What is the market for a Tokheim 850 square bottom complete and original. It came out of a bulk plant in Iowa still pumping gas. Has pump and motor in it still.

Thanks Troy

Im going to ask a question here? Where are these people from? How do you find them? How do you get those prices out of this pump? Are these people the kind that just has to have it or what,I dont see any of these bringing that kind of money. No harm here just trying to locate the same market of people.I think that some of the prices from Rexs auction have stunned the gas world???? I have heard that the globes went for good deals!

Steve...we have been mailing & handing out catalogs out since the early 1990's. We have logged probably over a million miles in the last 5 years going to events ranging from restaurant trade-shows to Nascar Races to Prop-House events. No, you aren't going to get those kinds of prices at Columbia and you sure aren't going to get them at the Lebanon Swap meet. The funny thing is, some of the shows I go to, what competition I do have there often resent me because they say my prices are TOO CHEAP!!!! I went to an event last summer where I was selling restored Bennett 541's for $2995 and a dealer bought all 3 of them because he said I was "killing the market" at this particular event. The people that pay those kinds of prices aren't from any particular region or demographic. Most of them feel a high-level of comfort dealing with an actual business that they know is going to be there in case something goes wrong. Doing pumps as a livelihood is a lot different than doing them as a hobby or quasi-business, not saying one is better than the other. But dodo was right, consider the following costs; bldg payment, bldg insurance, product-liability insurance, employee wages, employee insurance, paying property taxes (even on your pumps), utilities, etc....so in essence, you have to go and find a clientele that will pay good prices or you will be out of business.

In closing, I would like you to site specific examples of items at Rex's that have "shocked" the collecting world? I talked to probably 10 dealers yesterday, the kind of guys that are buying & selling signs, globes, pumps EVERY DAY, that were at the auction and they all said the same thing....."the good stuff brought good money". Not one of them said things were soft other than common stuff or plain, unpopular globes. I just would like to know what pieces you were referring to so I can decide for myself if I need to be worried or not. Thanks, Seth

I wont comment on the pump prices,we have been over that before, just was a question of thought. I talked to a few of the oldgassers that do the globes and they said the globes went fairly cheap. One off the top of my head was a 15in crown gasoline,I havent looked at the roster of prices yet but is just info from people off here.Alot of globes went for under the 200 dollar price, just a fake one costs 75 anymore. The visible went for 1400 restored, that seems cheap also.Just a few I remember.

This pump is a 1200-2000 pump depending on condition. I watch ebay auction as they are a good judge of market price and the last one sold for $1400. Sure you may be able to sell them for more to the right guy who needs the pump for his collection but I think you are more likely to sell it in the range above. Supply and demand plain and simple.

Just my .02

Good call Scott...I should've qualified my statement that those prices were probably the top 10% of the market, though I have not personally seen a NICE square bottom Tok 850 for under $2000 for quite awhile.

I didnt want to sell the last round I had and got $2000 for it. I think that was top dollar. There has to be 1 square for every 10 rounds. I wouldnt think $3000 would be out of the relm. Suply and demand again, there just isnt any 850s in my neck of the woods. They all have come from back east that I know of. Seems that demografics has alot to do with it, 36B's are plentefull out here and youre doing good to get $1000 dollars out of a complete pump. There are clockface 36B's for around $1200. I payed 500,and 800 for the last two 38b's I bought. Last summer I had 2 for $1000 apiece and no one wanted them, ended up trading them off. JM2C

Now everyone is thinking more reasonable for sure.I bought my round 850 from a dealer and paid very good money for but the condition is excellent, wont need sandblasted to get rid of the rust and all. This makes up for buying junk.Is the market for a restored square 6000 now if it restored????I dont think so but if people can get these prices so be it,it just doesnt mean that that is what these are worth. The last one on ebay also had a 400 globe with it.

I bought a square one last summer from a picker...he knew it was worth more than he sold it to me for, but he just wanted to get his investment back and make a quick profit. $960 with nice sheetmetal and no visigauge. I tought that was a good deal. I know I could get $1700-$1800 fairly easily...$2000 plus...I am not sure.

I offer quart can re-lidding, can rolling, lid stamping, and dent removal.

Well right back at ya....did you see the three Texaco pump plates at the Aumann sale...Texaco Diesel Chief Red Wide Spray, Texaco Yellow Diesel Fuel, Texaco Marine White w/ Ship's Wheel...all over $3000 with the Marine going over $4000. GOOD STUFF BRINGS GOOD MONEY. You watch my sale in two weeks, we are selling 80 globes and theoretically none should bring less than $500-$750 with some in excess of $10,000 but some will take a dump just becuase of the sheer number...just like at Rex's. Auctions aren't a good barometer of the hobby, just like Barrett-Jackson isn't a good barometer of the car market, btw, you got any GOOD A-38's or Wayne 60's spotted? I'm getting rid of two in the auction (one wide & one narrow) and that's only going to leave me 2. I don't like to have less than 6 or so Wayne 60's in stock.

I got that one a-38 in last week for a guy and he backed out.Good shape earlier resto for 1300 or some cash and some credit on some parts????I still havent looked through Rexs auction sale, takes to long and Im to busy working now. That seems like a heavy increase in the globe price.Signs are always overpriced it seems like, thats why I stay away from them.Everyone has theyre own condition grading on them also,we talked about that before.Unless I keep them or buy them at a bargain price I usually just pass on them.Let me know on the pump if your interested.I hope we make it down there to your show, work is killin me.Overtime is nice though!
