I have a Gilbert & Barker Self-Measuring Pump. Type 6, Model 1, Serial Number 5003. It was pulled from a carriage house in Grosse Pointe Michigan where it has been since 1917. I believe it was originally installed in the house when built. It was painted silver but there is red paint beneath. I have the hose and nozzle and also I can still get the pipe that goes into the floor. The spigot handle shaft is broken but I assume I can get it repaired. I have a few questions. I would be grateful for any help. I can emial photos.
What value would you place on it?
Where can I find info to refinish it to its original paint scheme?
Is there any thing I can do to increase the flexibility of the hose which is a bit stiff from age? It is a heavy rough woevn material over rubber I assume.
Where might I find original owner manuals?
Thanks everyone.

Your pump, in its original color is pictured in my new gas pump identification book. I doubt if you'll find anyone with parts for sale, but I have been wrong before. To find out if anyone has any parts you should post a request on this web site and subscribe to "Check the Oil!" magazine, the voice of the International Petroleum Collectors Association" (the big club for petroliana collectors, I write the pump articles) where you can place an ad for feee. For information about the club or the book, see my website: www.crspub.com I also have sales literature for your pump, contact me at: jhsim@swbell.net if you are interested in the literature. The T-6 was made in 1916. According to my literature it was finished with a "red enamel baked on". I can supply a replacement hose if you need it and color photocopies of the literature. Ron Scobie rscobie@gaspump.com
