Its been sugested that I can use an 1/2 x 1/2npt elbow and use a straight 1/2 npt light socket. I currently dont have the pump in my posession to see if I have the extra distance the elbow would add...does anyone know if this would not work.
Thanks again. Kim

Kim, Most pumps have enough room to use the elbow and a short all-thread nipple if your socket is a female and no nipple if your new socket is male. This was the "norm" for some pumps anyway. This is what I usually do and nobody can see it anyway. Good Luck! Rod

Kim, You might want to check out these part numbers at you local electrical supply house. Some of them may work better than standard iron pipe street ells. Pull Corner Elbow, Steel City #HL-611; Short Elbow, T&B #4250, Steel City #HL-201SC; porcelian socket for 1/2 pipe is a Leviton #10051. Also if you only need the porcelain socket then check out these with screw mounting, Leviton # 10035 or 10085 (wired w/ 9" leads). The one in the picture looks like it may be a screw mounted socket.
Good Luck, Ed

Kim: You can simply remove the porcelain fixture from the elbow and replace it with a new unit from Lowe's or Home Depot. Just see if you can get the small brass screws to release at the bottom of the socket. If not, use a Dremel to grind the heads off to get the socket off. Once it is free you can ususally take a small pair of 'lock jaw' plyers and get the threaded portion of the screw out of the elbow unit. Take your time and use as much WD-40 as necessary. Then simply replace with the new porcelain socket after you attach the new wiring. Much easier than tracking down new parts (if they are even still made). Later . . . Thanks for all the responses.
The pic shown is the good side, its the other side not shown that I will replace. The elbow is broken...
Thanks to you all, I have enough info to proceed.
Kim
