Hey guys I have a punched tin gasoline lens and I was just curious if anyone knew what tool they used back then to punch the holes? There is a flap of metal still in each hole so clearly it could not have been a drill. It's always puzzled me so I figured I ask if any of you guys knew.

I've always assumed those were stamped.

...it's just a punch that dimpled/cut 3/4 of the way around the hole (leaving a tab), and pushed the cut tin in...

...on the old Tiolene signs, there are 3 or 4 different sizes of holes...pretty sure those, at least, were punched by hand...

Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...
