It’s that time again, and I figure this should be a week with lots of good stuff being just a couple of days after Iowa gas. I hope everyone had a great time at the show! I missed it this year, but I will not miss it next year! I did however make it to Hot August Nights in Reno NV where I still managed to run into a few fellow oldgassers at the swap meet. Here are a couple of things I managed to pick up. Keep them coming everyone!

It’s amazing to me how you think you know someone and then they shock you with an “oh by the way I have one of those…” Well that happened on Tuesday in a casual conversation with a friend. We were talking about Hancock stuff, and he said “ I’ve got a couple of the signs I believe are Hancock truck door signs that I found in one of the old stations I bought, and I’ll give you one.. heck they even had the paper in between them when I found em”. I replied if you have a Hancock truck door sign I’m not going to let you just give me one, as he is a collector as well and loves this stuff too. I quickly showed him a picture of what they look like, and he said “no they don’t look like that but I’ll send you a picture of what I have later tonight”. As usual he forgot to send the picture and he knows my curiosity was gonna get the best of me. The anticipation was killing me! I patiently waited until Wed, and then Thursday….again Friday, so finally I sent him a text asking if he ever got a chance to take the photo to send to me. He quickly replied with a photo and said here they are…I told him those are new or stick rooster pump plates not the truck door signs he thought, but I let him know that I was very interested in one because I didn’t have one in my collection yet. I started brain storming to try and come up with something I was willing to part with, and at the same time he would be interested in.. Well a deal was struck and here it is; NOS like he said, and he handed it to me with the paper on it….Wow…I just about fell out!

...then on the way home from the Iowa Gas auction we were on Highway 141 where there was a 100 mile plus garage sale going on along it. My brother Racecop and I were dodging garagsalers and were just about to turn off 141 when my brother says turn around I think I just saw a Mobil Gargoyle oil cabinet. I said no way but did a U-turn anyway and sure enough there it was! Now it is home. Never know what you are going to find!!

Well,it's someone's BOTW but not mine. a friend spotted it for me at the Street Rod Nationals at Louisville KY (I was not there). I did make a play for it but hurdles remained. Oh well. Had to share because it did rock!!!

My Iowa gas buys. Many thanks to Tom Buckles for working with me on the tanker cabinet. Found a nice straight and complete GB 87. Also found this awesome firestone spark plug cabinet that has the painted spark plug diagram glass in tact.

Wonderful stuff everyone, I had a blast Iowa. Here was my main purchase. Many thanks to Clinton Newell for working with me, and Kevin Frith for letting me sit it by his spot for two days. I am super excited to finally have an 850! I also picked up 2 curved contains lead signs for it. My brother bought a Red Crown globe, and we picked up a pair of Mobilgas ad glass for one of our pumps. My dad picked up a wide body glass globe for his Hayes cash recorder pump. And one last thing was a sweet Champlin clock from Kevin Frith, can't wait to hang it up.

Well I didn't go to Iowa like everyone else, I'd love to make it out there some day. I went on my annual vacation in Oregon and came across this awesome 1940's Raybestos cabinet. It's just over 6ft. tall and It still has the books from 1941 in it! The sign lights up and is reverse glass. I've never seen another one of these has anyone else?

Bought these two pumps on my way to Iowa. A Bowser C-111 and a Clear Vision Model H-24. I believe the H-24 is the hand operated version of the H-22 pictured in Jack's book. Looks like there was something over the skins at the top of the Clear Vision. Anyone have a picture of what that could be please PM me a picture. Both of these pumps had been stored in barns for over 30 years.

Very very nice stuff that you have there Avio. That GM sign looks better in person than it does in the photo if that is possible. Those RI globes and lens will set a few OG hearts a fluttering as well. Great buys. My pick of the litter is the Maple Leaf lens.

About a year or so ago an Oldgasser wrote me and I bought the can on the right. Sorry, I don't remember who it was but many thanks again!! This morning, I drove a little over an hour to pick up the one on the right. A craislist purchase. This can is incredible!!! Gotta be at least teens I would say, if not older, with that red Sun Oils logo. It's actually a decal on the can. Needs a little careful clean up. Very excited to have both of these!
Steve Coppens Always interested in Sunoco items! Really want a Sunoco National pump ad glass!!
