For those of you who have cable. The discovery channel has a show called Myth busters and what they do it prove wether a myth is real or not. This time they tested if a cell phone could ignite gas fumes.

They conducted the test at Fred Stokes Gas museum. They briefly showed alot of his cool stuff including his "million" can collection. They did the acutall test near Fred Signal station! It was pretty neat but not enough time spent on the gas station stuff!

The show is on again at
12-28-03 4pm ET,
12-29-03 7pm ET,
12-30-03 2am ET,
According to discoverys web site.

Just thought I'd pass it along.

I seen it last night , Fred has a nice place! thats the largest collection of oil cans I've ever seen it's been in a couple of magazines, were there any oldgas guys there when they did the filming? I was always looking in the background to see if I would recognize anyone.

Chris, I was there at Fred's when they tried to get the thing to explode. You have to look quick to see me in one shot. I'm siting on my fat a** with a camera in front of me on the porch of Fred's General Store/ Can Room. Also, they did a quick pan shot of the barn and you can see my "traveling partner" (a red lowered Chevy p/u) in the background. I'm not sure these guys should be allowed out in public on their own. They are not right!!!!

And these seemingly "educated" people actually thought that a cell phone could ignite gasoline vapors? Amazing.

Chris, I think the firemen & sheriffs' outnumbered everybody else. They filmed it on a Weds. Fred is having another bash June 4-5th, 2004. If you can make it, you won't regret it. I know it's a long way from the midwest but it's really a cool place to see. Plus there'll be lots of us from the oldgas site there!!!!! What more could you want????
