.... does it really matter the category you place the item in? I mean, as a buyer, when I search, does it not search every category regardless of where the seller listed it? For example, if I search "oil can", and I'm set to "all categories" is it not searching the entire ebay database? What difference does it make what category the seller listed it in?

yes your correct Steve, I have NEVER in ebay history went to a category to search for something. I do well on ebay for all kinds of items, even items I see go previously unsold, I credit it with how I word my Item in the Title, It is all about using the right words that will catch the people like us just searching.

It is much more important to use the right name of an item rather than getting the category correct. For instance if doing a search for 2 gallon oil cans you get different results than a search for two gallon oil cans or a 2 gal. can will get you even different results, no matter what category it's listed in. Some times items will sell cheaper then they would if they were named differently.
