Hey guys, looking at an 8' Coca Cola Sign coming up at auction and had a couple of questions. It is not a "self framed" sign. It is not a "scroll top" sign. It looks to have a slight flange at the top. It has "DRUG STORE" on top with the green backing. It has "Fountain Service" at the bottom in the red backing. I haven't seen this sign with both drug store and fountain service scripts in person. Is this one more rare than the drug store signs with the "delicious and refreshing" logo? And was this a 2 piece sign? Why is it flanged on top? Any insight would be appreciated.

The flange likely is so a header panel with store name could be on it.

Below is link to another one of these signs.

That's a nice sign, not near mint but still excellent condition. I'm curious is there any date or manufacturer on it? The liveauctioneers link claims around 1950 but I'm not aware that they made these 4-color signs after the 1930s.

Sign is dated 1933... Some input on "quick sale value" vs "retail value" would be appreciated. Please see picture above. Again, it is an 8' sign. Thank you.

This is a pretty common sign. They sell retail typically for less than $1,000.

Here is a completed listing one for one in poor condition that sold for $250 on eBay.

Not a great comparison, but shows you the low end on these signs.

The sign is not scarce, but in nice condition it is well appreciated by most every sign collector I know.

$1000 for a nice one? I know a few people who would say "bring me all you got for that."

The main reason is that most are in the condition of the OP photo or worse, so nice examples bring considerably more. I've seen similar to OP ask $1500 and I've also seen them not get unloaded before they shoot off the truck for $800 with 3 guys wishing they'd been there quicker. You be the judge.

They should watch the Nashville Craigslist. A gentlemen sold three or four nice 8' signs for less than $500 a piece last fall.

I had $1k-1.5K in mind at auction for this sign. The main reason I began this post is the liveauctioneers auction has one bringing 6k. I wasn't sure if this was a rare design with both "drug store" and "fountain service" scripts... and I understand how auctions get when 2 folks want an item; but 6k??? If I was closer to Nashville, I would have been sick if I missed out on signs like this for less than 500! The man must have needed $$ or not known what he had. Just my opinion. However, If anyone knows of any 8'ers for less than 1k in good shape I would def be interested if you're not. Thanks again for your responses. Ill let you know what sign brings, auction is tomorrow.

Ok guys, hammer dropped at $1750 on this piece. With buyers premium and tax , buyer had around 2k in it. Wanted to correct the description as well after seeing it in person... I thought there was a flange only on the top, however, it was flanged all the way around. The picture shown above definitely did this sign justice. In person it did not have much gloss at all, but still a nice sign.
