We're getting close, 33 days & counting! I know that Ted & Pam & the marble head boys will be there along with Mike Slama, Craig, Rick, Art, Hubba, Elvis, Ol Toy Doc, etc. Looking forward to meeting T-Way & "The Keeper". June 3-4th, (although ALOT of vendors start setting up on Thurs.) No admission fee as always, food on site Fri. & Sat., If you're "on the fence"...show up! Always a great time (you listenin' Poorman & Prof. Bennett?) The oil can races on Sat. morning make the trip worth while.

The best show on the west coast except for the other show here in the fall. Free admission does draw the crowds and vendors do well here. I usually spend more than I make but that is what the whole thing is about. What vendor tour will we have this year????? Who knows but it will rock. Ted

The "Lodi Corner" will be in overdrive as usual. Yes it's true, Hubba is scheduled to make an appearance. You'd think he's a freakin' rock star!!!!! (Actually, I'd take Hubba over any "rock star" any time, any day, any where!!!) Local Frank & Steve, you guys coming this year????? Steve, you should have lots of $$$ after selling your '31 to my buddy John! LOL!!!

I've been working on the car getting ready for the drive.

Planning on promoting the Solvang Gas Bash, meeting some of the northern boys, and bringing the Firestone beer. Might even have to sample some of that local wine (reds only for me).

Might even bring my albums of historic photos so we have something to do around the campfire (once Hubba's Hula Show is over).

I plan to be there to represent Elk Grove. Hopefully that close enough to Lodi to grant admission to the Lodi corner. I missed meeting Ted last year (my first Stokes event).

The best wines in a box come from Lodi California. Second to that are their screw top varietals, like Boone's Farm Strawberry Hill. Then there's the redneck wines that come with a pull tab in the silver cans.

Just wanted to give you all a preview of what to expect up there in Santa Rosa.

Hubba, Elvis has been kinda quiet, you guys still comin'???? Fred says that one of his killer oak trees lost a HUGE branch (& I mean HUGE!!!); fire wood anyone??? P.S. Ted, Gary is really hammering on me for your spot, I might be starting to buckle under the pressure, make sure you bring plenty of refreshments!!!!

Hey, we're all rednecks, we collect old gas pumps and empty oil cans.

Save that oak, I'll bring some tri-tips and well have us a a Santa Maria Style Barbecue.

For those of you that don't know what a Santa Maria Style BBQ is:

Man you guys have been having fun while I been working. Shutting down an auto repair place I've had for the past 19 years and working late moving. Need to relax at Fred's. Tom save that spot I'll bring the goods and some great Lodi special red wine with the best screw cap made. Gary the difference between Lodi reds and Napa is the cork that's it!!!!! Tom and I order wine the same. Give us a bottle of your cheapest red. Should be fun. Got to leave by noon on Sat. to get home for a party at 4 P.M. so come come early and have fun. Ted

That corner is some of the most desireable real estate in No. California!!! Must be that boat looking thing on the other side of the fence! The red carpet will be rolled out for everybody. I think there might be a Turlock Bob sighting......make sure you're near his trailer when he starts to unload, it's first come, first served (or whoever can shove their way to the front!!) 20 days & counting....

Just saw Turlock Bob in Cambria a couple of weeks ago selling stuff at the street sale. Even bought some of his stuff. I think that he's committed to the coast now so I'm sure he'll be there?!?

I think Ted's right about the Lodi reds. They put it in a box and sell it for a couple of bucks over there, then they bottle it and put a cork in it and get 18 bucks for it over here. Those valley guys aren't stupid just because they're rednecks.

Sounds like the Lodi corner is the place to hang out.

"contemporaneous"? That word is not allowed on Oldgas. Far too many letters and the implications are too ambiguous.

Tom, how many days until Fred's Bash????

Let's have a blind tasting. We'll put the box wine in a shopping bag with the spout sticking out and wrap the screw top in a lunch bag, the Napa's should fit in a lunch bag too.

The Firestone beer can just go in the cooler.

I think that we get the oldgas record for using the most words with the most letters in one post.

The taste test is on. I bring the cheap Lodi wine and Gary brings the Napa wine and Curt brings the central coast wines and Tom brings the Ripple and we all drink it. Curt yours first Gary second and by that time they all taste the same. Taste test over. Then we go pay too much for something at the bash. Having fun and can't wait. Ethyl and Pam are getting ready also. Ted

Right on Ted, serve the good wine first! By the time we get to the Firestone beer it will taste like a good Cabernet.

We'll have Hubba doing the Hula and the Lodi Corner will be Disco Dancing.

I remember those people. I showed John Travolta all his moves and if I try that now I get down on the floor but don't get up and that is before the wine. We can give it a try and see what happens. Ted

I never thought too much of agents' until I became one (today, evidently!!) I'm playing both sides of the coin on this one. Gary vs. Ted. I'll haul more wine home than signs, pumps, etc. Man, we might have to change this to Fred's West Coast Wine Tasting & Gas Bash. I'm telling you, wine/beer & bashes go together. Look at some of the prices that guys pay for cars & automobilia @ Barrett-Jackson!!!! Who'd a thunk it! 15 days & counting.................

Gary I actually need 10 flat reflectors for some signs. Got flat ones? John told me Lodi wine was just fine. My wife went out and bought an expensive one 1.75 litre and it cost me $9. I said don't waste the expensive stuff on these guys. See ya in 13 days. Tom glad your the agent. Tom knows good wine and beer. Ted

Cheap wines don't have to be bad and bad wines don't have to be cheap.

Still there's nothing worse than a cheap whiner.

Bring the boxes, the screw tops and the cork bottles, we'll just mix it all together.

Talked to Fred tonight, he's getting more vendor reservations everyday. Lots of local advertising will bring in buyers. Check in with the crew in the "Lodi Corner", Ted & Pam, Gary & Randy, myself, etc. will be set up with LOTS of good stuff (oh yeah, we'll have some gas goodies for sale too!!!) P.S. Poorman, I guess you'll have plenty of Firestone Brew with you, I might be hauling some of it home for Don & Lynn.

Don will be lucky if he gets any full bottles by the time it gets there!

I think that I am going to bring some stuff to sell too. Where is the Solvang corner? I don't need a very big corner since I'm just putting some stuff in the back of my truck.

I picked up a can from Mark Mendenhall that he wants Fred to re-lid for him so give him a heads up. Mark owes him for this one, not me.

How about the details. What time Friday and Saturday??? When's the BBQ? What time is the hula show????

I heard there was going to be a shooting gallery at the Lodi corner where you try and shoot the marbles out of some old road signs.

Was planning on going, till I heard that Fred SOLD most of his can collection !

That's what usually happens when you specialize in certin areas, like one company or item. You get to a point where the only items you want/need, are not for sale or are over priced. You get tried of looking and decide to sell. Then start in a differant direction.
Ya'll have fun,

Gang:

The Keeper and I will be arriving sometime Thursday. We are staying at a B&B (The Gables) about twenty minutes away in Santa Rosa. It's supposed to be in the heart of wine country.

I know that Jodi is looking forward to the 'Lodi Corner' since she is a wine lover. I plan on turning her over to you guys to 'entertain' while I run around the bash. With any luck, she won't even notice how much stuff I'm buying! LOL

We're flying out to San Francisco this Saturday for her Aunts wedding on Sunday. Then a couple of days in SF/the Nappa Valley, and finally off to the B&B and Fred's.

See ya all there.

Later . . .

Jim

T-Way, don't let those Napa guys confuse you. The heart of the wine country is down here in Santa Barbara County. Your wife will do just fine in Napa though, and Sonoma and the Russian River.

Napa used to be a fun little wine touring town, but nowadays it has turned into the winery version of Disneyland. Yes Tom, the wines are still great, but it has gotten real big.

Look forward to meeting many Oldgassers there from the northern country. Looks like without db I will have to represent the Central Coast.

Started pulling out stuff from the trailer today... not too much to sell but I hope to find some good stuff to buy!
Dick... you need to go, I'll bring that ugly nozzle
(I might not sell it to ya, but I'll bring it! lol! Bring me something to trade!)

I'm going to have to make a midnight raid of Mendenhall's to get marble signs. Nice collection over there.

I've completely lost my marbles so I don't have any.

I was going to bring some stuff to sell but it looks like the back of my truck will be full of cases of Firestone beer. At least I know it will be empty by the time I'm ready to leave.

Bringing photos of rat rods, service stations and diners, and of course the Firestone. No marble signs yet. I do have some Hawaiian skirts and lei's though.

How many posts can we get up to before the bash?

Drive to Santa Rosa, motel room two nights, table at Fred's, booze and food: $350; selling all your precious collectibles: net $200; sitting at Lodi corner, outside the Roach coach pounding 600 beers and 25 bottles of wine, getting to hang out with the likes of Jim and Jodi Treadway, Ted and Pam, Poorman, Randy Reissner, Tom Stover and the incomprable Hubba.....then getting to listen to the enigmatic intonations of Aqua Elvis.................Priceless. Thanks guys!!!!!

Had a great time with the usual idiots (that would be Randy and Gary) and all the rest of the oldgas crew. Good to meet the Michingan team Jim and Jodi. Did yoy know she has RED hair???? Hope to get my pictures posted sometime but it took 4 hours just to unlaod the signs I got. Thanks Hubba. Even got the 66 sign today from Curt. Sold some stuff traded some stuff but still came up short but what a collection. Thanks for all the fun. Good pics Curt. You the man. Randy how's the hood????

Just rolled in a little while ago. Took me a few hours extra to get home. Too tired to tell you the story now, details at a later date. Had a GREAT time as always. Hope we entertained Jim & Jodi enough to warrant a return trip sometime (bring Chris with you, sounds like he'd fit into the corner just fine!!). Bought, sold, traded & saw lots of great stuff. Gary, funny, the guy that you sold the Texaco 6 footer to doesn't really look like he's your brother. Randy said something about him being your brother & Randy wouldn't tell me something that wasn't true...... Ted & Pam & Ethyl, what can I say...you guys are the best!!!! Already looking forward to October 14th-15th.
