First off I'm not 100% sure because I don't have the pump to double check with so maybe I shouldn't comment, but based on the graphic style I have seen that glass in an totally original American 488. Hopefully someone with pump will know by the size.
Tom.

Tom, I tried googling it but the results were quite scattered and I really dont know what I'm looking for. Do you have a picture of a 488?

WOW Matt!!! I have to pick my jaw up off the floor!! Those are the two most beautiful pumps I've ever seen.
But being obvious restorations, it makes me wonder if someone didn't reproduce this glass. And that the one in the pic I posted is actually a repop!

Matt found a good example. Here is a picture of an incredibly original American. I cropped out the rest of the pump, not my pump. Tom.

What are you guys googling to find these? In Matts picture, the pump on the left, is that an American 488? Tom I would like to see the rest of that picture. Can you email or post a link?

So considering it's flawless condition, would you guys think this glass I posted is repop? One thing I noticed. The lens I posted, the font has the serifs (little tags flying off the corners of the font) which would be correct for almost all Sunoco stuff prior to approx. 1950. And although its tough to tell given the small size of Matts and Toms pictures, but they dont look to be there.
What are the approximate production/use dates for the 488?
Also, where would one get an American 488? That pump is beautiful!!

Holy Smokes! That answers the question that I could never figure out. Now I know what my ad-glass went to.
Guess I have add that pump to the "want but cant find" list!
If you find a second one Steve, let me know.
Yours also is about the same condition as mine so I wouldn't use that alone as a reason to suspect repop.

The pump was featured in CTO in 1995. There were two pumps found with consecutive serial numbers. The owner passed away in April of this year and the pump was sold. Back then he made the decals; corner trim for the ad glass and the ad glass also if my memory is any good. Ron
