I don't begrudge any one making a profit (I think that's what helped build our country); the promoter's that have to rent a place for a show, insurance, security, etc. would at least like to cover their expenses I would think. I know what goes into promoting a show, besides Fred's 2 shows, I'm also involved in a club that puts on a sports collectibles show within the Seattle city limits (try dealing with a large city government sometime!!) Yes, Fred's show is on private property (as is Roy's) so alot of the things you brought up we don't have to deal with (fortunately!!) I've been to Roy's show twice in the past & always had a great time (got to spend time with Professor Bennett; that is always a good time!!) We need to support the bashes; I just don't like having to spend extra $$$$$$$ to get into a show "early"...

I have paid an early fee at the Big Sky gas show. Actually I think I asked what it would take to get in when the dealers do and Barry said "for $10.00 you can come to the vendor barbecue too." I miss that show and it was great to meet the guys the night before.
I'd not go to a show that charged $50 to get in early. Maybe $20. I'll get a space at the Front Range Gas Bash but mostly so I can get in when the dealers do. I'll bring some stuff to sell but I don't have much to sell.
CAUTION!
RARIN TO GO RANT!!!
Quite a few years back while at Iowa Gas I overheard some dealers complain about the lack of trafic and sales. Well as a collector and NOT a dealer I wanted to tell them "why should I drive hundreds of miles to go to a show when I know that all the good items got snatched up by the dealers who got to go in earlier than the buyers". I'm not going to drive across a couple of states to look at Fire Chief signs and Pennzoil cans. The next year they were all about the "NO EARLY SALES" thing with workers wearing shirts that said just that.
Last year was the best Iowa gas I had been to as far as seeing good stuff on the lot on Thursday. However me and my friend rolled into town Wednesday at about 5:00 PM and there were people walking all over the place. I asked someone I knew who was set up and he said he had been selling since about 11:00 AM. The day before the show is to start. So now this year I will show up earlier but guess what? FREE ADMISSION FOR BUYERS! And the buyers have the SAME access as dealers. It's a level playing field and that is what makes Iowa Gas one of the best shows in the country.
This is nothing to do with Roy Reeds gas bash but some people where giving their opinions about early entry fees and this is mine. If I was able to go to the Roy Reed show I would either pay the $30 or I wouldn't go at all. Just my opinion.

Yea Dick,
Last year's IG was great. The weather, the stuff, and the feel. I really think that having the show all at the hotel made for a real good atmosphere. Everyone just seemed friendlier and more social. Or maybe it was just that I was less grumpy. Doubt it. Hope the shows at the hotel again this year.

I have a couple of extra POMONA SWAP tickets to sell. It's the same weekend as Reed's Gas Bash. I will have them at the bash.

Normally I'm the photographer for the west coast gas bashes. I was planning on being at Roy's on Friday, but my plans blew up due to the better half making other plans. I also had to go to Anaheim today to take my son to a band competition and didn't really want to make the LA run twice in two days.

I was hoping that I could squeeze in the bash this morning, but there wasn't enough time to get my son where he needed to be and make it to Roy's.

To make a short story longer, on Friday night Roy called Mark Mendenhall to tell him that he had scored an original Richfield pump for him at his bash. As it turned out I was at Marks and I told him that Dick Bennett was at Roys and that we were going to meet at the Pomona Swap Meet after Roys bash.

I figured that my consolation prize for not making the bash was a preview of Pomona on Saturday afternoon. The plan was to meet Dick around 1:00 pm to get my entry pass and check out the early arrivals.

Dick called me at noon to say he was still at Roy's. I was sitting in Pomona having lunch. Dick said, why don't you just drive out to Roys and meet me and we'll load the pump right into your truck. Roys was only about 30 miles so I said sure.

So as it turned out I made it to Roy Reed's Gas Bash. Of course it was 1:00 pm on the second day and the vendors were frantically loading and leaving. I didn't even bother to take my camera out of the truck. I did see some of the leftovers. Talked to Roy and he said it was a good bash and a good turnout.

Bad news, no photos!

I'm depending on GasPumpRob to get me some pictures from Friday and hopefully some of the others picked up the slack.

Can't even show you the pump I picked up for Mark Mendenhall because it's wrapped in a moving pad and I haven't even seen it yet.
