I have the opportunity to purchase (2) 60" vertical Marvy Barber Porcelain Signs in great condition. Little rust top and bottom, a few minor chips. I have seen plenty of 48" similar signs but I have not been able to find the value of the 60" (5ft) signs. The reference picture is similar but Not as good condition. Rare? Any help on this. Thanks Dan.

Yes, rare.
The 48" ones are usually overpriced, but can be purchased for $250 or under.
I've been collecting poles and signs for over 30 years and have only come across a 5'variation twice.
They were in the $600 range so I passed as I thought that was too much.

Bill, was it the 5ft. sign or the 4ft. sign. The 5ft. Are also a little wider.

Well, here is a picture of the actual 60" x 10" sign. Nice size sign with original wood mount inside. The condition is not what I thought it was but still nice with NO denting. Besides the feed back I received on this post, I still have not been able to find this sign anywhere. EBay, Auctions, Yahoo, Google. Still looking for a good appraisal. Thanks OldGas for the help, Dan.

It was about 1.5 years ago at Round Top.
Is the appraisal for insurance purposes or how much to sell/buy it for?

No, the sign was at Round Top Texas about a year and a half ago.
I tried to get the guy down to $400 but he wouldn't budge.
I'm just not sure what you mean by a good appraisal. The barber pole/sign collector community is rather small so prices aren't as cut & dry as they are in the petroliana field.
I will pay much more for something I don't have than I would if I was just upgrading or getting it as a trader, so even my own values fluctuate greatly. My collector friends are the same.
The 5' sign I was talking about was about an 8.5 and didn't sell at $600 for 3 weeks, I would have paid $400 max, so in my opinion the value is somewhere in there.
