Here's a couple photos of views that we saw on a recent 375 mile trip to pick up a gas pump.
The Pump is a Wayne 60. Farmers Dad wanted to take it to the dump.
Farmer convinced Dad that people might want to collect it.
Ok, Farmer wants $65.00 for the gas pump.
Talked with the farmer and found out his Dad is 95 years old and will receive the money.
Gave the Farmer $100 dollar bill.
Farmer say's I don't have change.
I say give it to your dad.
Farmers say's are these things worth this?
Why did I give them the extra money ?
Before I made it home had a call from the farmer. The Farmer had been talking to his 95 year old Dad.
They have more pumps in other barns.

I agree, $500 at a minimum. What a despicable deal.

Very nice original condition pump, and neat photos, thanks for posting them......

I do hope however you might make it right with the seller if you go back for more pumps, or regardless. I'm usually not one to make a controversial post or join in a "heated" discussion on OG, but I have to agree with a couple other posts above. We all love a great deal, I get that. But with the information you posted above for all to see, it isn't a reflection of an honest deal in the majority of the membership's eyes. It's very evident the seller didn't know what they had, and I don't think the extra $35 made it "right" as the post reads to me.

Great pump, sad to see a person who has no knowledge of valve taken advantage of especially a 95 year man. I don't like getting involved in these types of discussions but I think the issue here is pretty obvious. Hell, the pickers would even stepped up.

I was going to let this post pass and not comment on it but here goes.

I have purchased a number of pumps over the past 20 plus years. Many of these purchases have come from farms, gravel pits, wanted ads, etc. and I can proudly say that on numerous occasions I have paid more, sometime much more, than the seller was asking. My dad was with me a couple of times, and after the deal was completed and we were back on the road, he would ask why I did what I did. I would tell him that this is a hobby for me, that I got a good deal and that I needed to be able to sleep at night. He never said anything after that but there was always the hint of a smile on his face.

Again, this is my hobby and where I put my disposable income. I do not purchase pumps to resell because I need the money. I'm certain that isn't the case with everyone.

Treat others as you would want to be treated!

I know I joked up above, but here’s a little story that I tell often....

I once went to purchase a sign from an older gentleman and he wanted $300 for it. He showed me around his shop/barn and showed me his collection. He showed me a Wayne 60 he was restoring and said that the only piece he needed was the base. We got to the sign and I told him I would take it. I told him it was probably worth a little more than $300. I gave him $400 and told him to put the extra $100 towards the base he needs. I also told him I would help find the base for him. He was somewhat shocked at what I did. A week or two later I located a base and gave him the gentlemans info. He ended up striking a deal with the guy and completed his pump.

About two months later I unexpectedly received a call from him out of the blue. He said he got his base and finished his pump. He was very happy. He continued on and asked me if I would be interested in coming back up to his place and driving to two of his friends houses to buy some signs they were selling. I drove back up and went to his friends with him. I ended up buying 1 pump, 2 antiques and 16 signs from his two friends (at fair prices).

We are still friends to this day; we talk to each other on a REGULAR BASIS, visit each other and go to auctions together every once in a while. He is now a good friend. (I also became good friends with his other friend that I bought signs from and we still talk often as well).

I just thought I would share this, as I thought of it while reading this thread. A little goes a long way.

-Steve

Oh, and as far as the sign goes, it's far from perfect, but I will never sell it as long as I live.
