Good evening everyone!
I apologize I am 2 days late on the pump of the month for August 2018. I just got home from Iowa, what a fantastic trip. The pump of the month for August 2018 is the Bennett 76 series of pumps. These are fantastic art deco looking pumps from the 30's. They have a very unique sight glass and spinner assembly The pump could have came with either a visi gauge or an inside sight glass assembly. Here is the pump models included in this month.
-Bennett 76: 1935-1939. Pump with a two or four ad glass top. Also came with factory ad glass covers for the top. -Bennett 77 & 77A: 1935-1939. Clockface version of the 76. Also was a hand crank option for no electricity areas.
The above information is from Jack's fantastic book. Please share the pumps you have everyone! Thank you and lets have a great August!

I bought my 76 all in pieces and in the middle of the resto. I am planning on branding it White Eagle. I assume you guys wouldn't be interested in pics of the process for this thread.
Great pumps guys keep 'em coming.

Here are some clean parts. I try to powder coat everything that I can. I am limited to the size of my oven. If I don't like something, I fix it or make a new one.

I noticed Randy`s pump has the one piece cast reset crank handle. The Bennett 76 used two different reset handles. the other style is the same one used on Bennett 371s. The 77 (clock face) use a shorter ratcheting reset handle. These are hard to find because they are delicate and brake easy.

Here is my SSE 76, that is Service Station Equipment. It still needs a few parts and some body panels straightened out. Hopefully one day I will get to it.

Yeah, the face plate is crooked, but it is magnetic, so that is fixable. Nope the visi gauge is in original spot. LOL. See message above.

Here are my two.
The Richfield pump was found in a wall in an old station in Truckee, CA. The owner of the station was trying to enlarge his office space, so he figured he would open up a wall that had a large void in it. At this point he had owned the station for several years and it had always bothered him that his office had this sheet rock pop out that sounded hollow when he would knock on it.
One day wheeling a hammer, he took to the sheet rock and punched a large hole in the wall only to see his reflection in a piece of glass as he looked into the hole. It took him a minute before he figured out that he was looking at an old pump face. At this point he started opening up the sheet rock a little more carefully to find this old Bennett 76 gas pump with original paint. He never did find out why someone would seal this old pump in the wall, but he did say he thought this is what sparked his passion for collecting.
Back in those days, the trend was to restore them all, and I was only able to purchase the pump from him after he had primed it to protect it from the elements until it could be restored. He didn't bother sanding it before he primed it and it had all of those old layers of paint. So, I decided to do a rustoration on it and I really liked the way it turned out. I've always enjoyed thinking of him and the story of how found it. I've owned over a hundred pumps over the years and this one with it's great story is one of my keepers.
