I found this photo on the internet recently, and I am surprised to see globes on the gas pumps. From the shape of the pumps (and the style of the cars), the photo seems to be from the early 1960's. My understanding is that globes were phased out in the late 1940's. This is almost certainly not a Conoco-owned gas station, but rather an independent who has arranged to sell Conoco gas. My guess is that this independent has customized the pumps to their liking. Anybody have a different opinion?

The pumps are too blurry for me to clearly identify them (using Jack Sim's book), but they are clear enough to identify them as being from the early 1960's.

Thanks.

Andy

Globes were in use long past the 40"s. Some were still in use into the 70's and 80's. Clark was one of the last ones to use globes.

The pumps are Bennett 2000 series from the late 50`s, early 60`s and the trucks behind the station are a 59 Chevy and a 56 Ford.

They have been redoing Exxon and Mobil stations around me. I wish they would bring globes back. Even if the lenses where plastic. I would just be cool!!!

Cliff Brice used globe around the building sconces up in to the early 90's, maybe later. Sinclair (Dino globes) and Shamrock up through the 70's for sure. I saw some Sinclair's still on the pumps behind a station in 1984.

Does anybody know where this Superior gas station was (or is) located?
