Years and years ago, I bought a set of 3 really cheap side/coffee tables. Particle board laminate tops - but the bases were nice.
Fast forward to now.
I had a woodworker friend of mine make me some new Poplar tops.
Here's what I started with and the hardware I used for this project. The aluminum stand-offs were custom machined for this project.

I 'aged' the top. Stained it and put 3 coats of Matt Polly on it.
Then assembled it and added a custom cut 1/4" glass top.

It was designed specifically to display smalls - esp. my small collection of old car wax cans.
Along with a few other smalls.
Later . . .

My favorite aspects of this petroliana affliction are the enjoyment of "the hunt" and the satisfaction that comes from having a vision come together as planned. Nicely Done.
