The business consultant called today, and the area that i planned to build the station wouldnt work. Chevron doesnt justify supporting a station out here in Southwestern New Mexico. It would cost 3 million dollars just to spend on the land and building the station, so im going to look into doing a small independent full service gas station instead.

Ill be honest, it definitely isnt the answer i was hoping for but i still want to do a full service station just closer to Interstate 10 which is 15 minutes from my house. There is more traffic there and i could get more business than from what i originally wanted to do. If i can i still plan on a 40s or 50s independent full service gas station.

My 2 cents for what it's worth ... here's how it works in Ohio.

You have 2 routes to go ... getting fuel from a 'major' ... i.e. Oil Company ... Marathon, Shell, BP etc..

or getting fuel from a 'jobber' They typically supply a string of their own stations or single privately owned stations.

I would check to see what jobbers are in your area. They typically will have 'rights' to sell particular brands of fuel. If you're flexible on brand, you can probably find a jobber to supply you fuel. And ... the upside is that there are usually fewer regulations than dealing with a major.

Definitely not giving up. Ill just keep working toward a small independent full service gas station instead.
