I've always wanted a texaco sign, but those things are big bucks, so I decided to do what I always do when something I want is out of my reach: I made one myself.

I found an old wagon wheel in a junkyard. I took the old steel tire off of it to use as a hoop around the edge. I went to a steel shop here in town that has a plasma table and had them cut out a 44 inch diameter circle for me. I welded that into the hoop from the wagon wheel. I also added on two ears to hang the sign.

Once I had a few coats of good 'ol Rust-Oleum on the sign, I used the old , traditional method of sign layout. I used this old projector to make marks on the sign for the layout. Once the layout was done, I got busy with tape.

With some high quality masking tape and a sharp razor blade, the red layer was ready to go on.

With the red down and dry, I moved on to the T. I found a perfect match for the green.

A few days later, with the red and green dry, I did the layout on TEXACO. It was really time consuming to lay out all the letters. Once it was done, I stepped back and realized how poor the spacing was on the C. I cut that section out and redid it. Then I shot the black.

The last step was to paint the black rim around the edge.

And here's the final results. I have a few small repairs to make once the paint is fully cured, but that's no big deal. I'm going to hang this in my barn once I get that set up as a shop.

And just for fun, here's a funny picture of my dog mid-sneeze next to the sign.

Congratulations!!! That turned out very nice. Great workmanship and vision to build your own instead of emptying the bank account on an original. I am impressed

Impressive to say the least. Another example of Made in the USA with American ingenuity. As mentioned before, thanks for letting us enjoy the process with you.
