From what I have learned, a new member "gregbent31", now banned from our site, used the name of "57tbirdkid" as a 3rd party referral to sell a wanted item. It appears that 57tbirdkid was not actually involved. He has not been active on Oldgas.com since spring of this year. The scamming new guy used a familiar name to get a potential buyer to let down his guard.
Be careful with those who you do not know. This new guy conned me with a clean background when registering. Turns out he's pulled scams on other sites since then. Probably changed his identity now.
The "I know a guy who has what you are looking for ..." is a red flag setting you up with an unproven 3rd party. Could be an honest deal, but it deserves extra diligence to check out as best you can. Minimize your risk by how you pay. Paypal will protect you if you don't use "Friends and Family" with a stranger.
