Warren, I have never had a short cast iron base, they all have been pressed steel. The cast iron bases I have had are for the tall four add glass pumps. The tall two add glass pumps had pressed steel. The only exception was the tall two add glass 39 with the bottom hose reel, which had a cast base. The only difference in the cast base was the style of the locking mechanism and they are taller. I have never tried to interchange them. Not saying you didn't have a cast base off of a short. Just saying I have never run across one. Richard

I have had a short with a cast and several with a stamped base. However, the cast pump was restored once, so I’m not sure if it was replaced. I was wondering about that when I re-restored them. However, the top electrical manifolds were different and the top electrical manifold mounting plates were different, so maybe a design change for sure. The sight glass manifold length was also shorter than the other one of the two 39’s I restored together.

You can see both bases in the background of this picture (the orange pumps). I’ll see if I have a better pic of the bases for you.

Here’s another pic. Stamped on the left, cast on the right. Somewhere I have a pic of the frames and bases together. I’ll try to find it for you. If I find it, maybe Warren can tell if it’s different from a tall one.
