Finishing up the Sinclair and this opportunity popped up- just across the street! This one is a 1930-something (trying to confirm) Texaco with an outbuilding office. Had the trees growing out from under it removed a couple of weeks ago, and now that the weather has cooled off I've started cleaning it out. I'm going to try and take the outside back down to the porcelain panels, and I've already found some of the old letters from the outside in the attic space- so I hope I can find the rest. The gentleman I purchased it from worked there as a teenager- it was his Dad's station. So here's a few photos to get started, along with an old 1970's photo of the station in it's glory days....
I'm looking forward to watch as this stations restoration gets going! I wish you the best of luck with this and hope there are no major surprises awaiting discovery! I admire the job you did on the Sinclair station and can't wait to see how this one comes out. GOOD LUCK!
Regards, Jim
I collect gas pump salt and pepper shakers and the plastic coin banks made by AVSCO.
As a Texaco collector I will be very interested to watch the progress on this. Best of luck. Which letters did you find in the attic... "The Service You Can Trust" or the Texaco letters. I noticed the have the green sation owner letters over the door, but not the usual "Marfak Lubrication" or the "Washing" Letters over the bay doors.
I found some of the larger red “Texaco” letters- not all so far- and I can see some of the stars shoved up in a corner of the attic that I can’t get to yet. I did find a cluster of smaller green letters but I haven’t had a chance to play Scrabble with them and figure out what they were. Like the red ones, I’m not sure they’re complete.
