Hello
for my first post I would like to ask a question about the label name “Phillips 44”. I’m living in France and I’m writing a book about Bug sprayers History in the world.
Some years ago, I bought a Phillips 44 bug sprayer. I ‘m not sure and I suppose that this item has been manufactured by Phillips 66 oil company.
I would like to give some informations about the label printed on the barrel of the bug sprayer.
I found many information about Philips 66 oil company but I found nothing about the number 44 lithographed on the sprayer. Why did the company choose tis number ?

As some of you are collecting and have interest about gasoline items, may be you could have the answer to this mystery.

Many gazoline bug sprayers from Oil companies in the world will figure in the book, many different Shell and Shelltox, Flit, Esso, Gargoyle, mobilTox, Socony, PD Sinclair, Noxin, BP, Imshi, Pemex, … I found some interesting informations about these international labels but nothing about the Phillips 44 .
Thanks for your help and good day to everybody

Hi
Thank you for this reply and this suggestion.
I also found an old advertisement from the 1930s with the Phillips 77 label.
For those who may be interested.

I have nine different Shell bug sprayers if you need more pictures for your book. Here is six of them. I also have a bunch of bug spray cans.

To MATT ALVAREZ and advertologist
Thanks so much for these picts of Shell, Shelltox sprayers and Phillips 44 insecticide cans. I think, the orange Shell sprayer item on the right in the first pict is the most rare. OK if you can send me a pict of this one, I will replace the model with an oval tank in the table with this rarer model.
The Phillips 44 insecticide can is in a very good shape, hard to find in this new condition , I put one like this in the book, and another one with a mosquito instead of the fly !

I continued to write the book, here are 3 pages taken from it, you 'll see some Shelltox. I have more than 40 Shell and Shelltox sprayers and I will put the more beautiful items in the full book's pages.

Somebody knows what company bought A-Penn Champ oil corp ?
