On the jar lid, there is a separate plate that houses the safety glass. On this one that I am taking apart, there are two filigree style heads with provisions for safety wire drilled into them opposite of each other. Was the glass held in by wire between these two screws? The pictures are of the top side of the jar lid and I don’t see any other mechanical means of holding the glass in place. The glass isn’t sandwiched between these two pieces of the jar lid, it sits on top of the smaller one.

On the ones I’ve seen glass sits in the channel not noticed any sealant on chickenwire safety glass.
Suspect safety wire went over top of glass with opposing screws holding a safety wire cross top keeping glass in place while in transit or removed from a location or tipped horizontally during handling/transport.
