I always drilled out the shank, threaded the handle to accept a 5/16 or 3/8 bolt. Fitted the bolt thru the wooden replacement. Added a washer as a spacer between the knob and steel handle. Use thread lock to hold bolt in place once you are happy with the fit. Paul
