Hi All,

I picked up this Gilbert and Barker T176-100 the other day and after a bit of a stressful day I decided to clear the head a bit at the end of the day so started pulling it apart.

The plan is to try and restore it to its original branding / colors. At the moment, it looks like it may have been a Derby Gasoline pump but will continue researching and see what I can find.

Before the actual resto starts I need to get it all apart so made a start on it today. I managed to get the top end apart without too much fuss except for snapping one of the standoffs that supports the top cover. They are rivet formed into the base so I will need to have a think about the best way to repair that one - either machine it down, drill it out and thread it then put a stud in, or make a whole new part and re-rivet it. Got a little bit of time to think about that one so will think about it.

Otherwise, the main glass seems to be in mint condition just needing a clean and polish, as is the light glass (the glass with the chicken wire in it) so on the glass front it all seems pretty good. It was a little tricky getting the main glass off but after cleaning out the old gasket and the white sealant around the outside (what is that by the way? Hope it doesnt contain asbestos . . . . . but will also need to know what it is when time come to put it back together and seal it back up) and then soaking in WD-40 it came loose which was a relief.

The gauges are in pretty good condition and with some careful cleaning to remove the fuel residue they should come up pretty good but a couple of the numbers have faded away so will need to see what the process is to re-finish them.

All the metal seems to be in reasonable condition and after I have it all stripped down will assess what work needs to be done to get the metal back to A1 condition. Once I get the plumbing stripped down will assess the pump and valves and see what needs doing but they should all be rebuild-able.

I will keep some updates on here as things progress.

Cheers,

Ben
