If CONOCO is the name for the Continental Oil Company and AMOCO is the name of the American Oil Company why is the Texas Oil Company spelled TEXACO not TEXOCO? Just wondering. Anybody know the answer?

I think it’s shorthand for TEXAs COmpany.
