Original Restored German WW2 M40 Helmet Luftwaffe DD SE-64
Based on the manufacturer code and lot number, the helmet was likely manufactured around 1940.
The "SE64" maker mark corresponds to the Sächsische Emaillier- und Stanzwerke A.G. factory in Lauter, and historical records for German helmet production indicate that lot numbers in the 10000 range for this manufacturer were produced during that approx. timeframe.
The "64" in the manufacturer's code also denotes the shell size in centimeters.
The interior liner size would typically be one size smaller, around 56 cm.
The number "10029" (or possibly 10029/4776, depending on the full stamp) is the production or lot number, used to track batches of steel used for quality control purposes.
The tan or sand-colored paint is typical of Afrika Korps helmets used in the North African campaign. The decals include a Luftwaffe (Air Force) eagle on one side and a national tri-color shield on the other. This double-decal configuration was standard for early war (M35) helmets but the national shield was ordered to be removed from March 1940 onward, and all decals were generally removed later in the war. The specific Afrika Korps palm tree emblem was an unofficial, locally applied insignia.
