I picked up the SOCONY branded parts washer. I can't find much on this other than what Gemini has been able to provide. Looks like an industrial line hence the blue color, probably from the early 30's. Paint is original and getting quite thin. What is the best way to treat / protect the paint?

Looks like a kerosene dispenser. You could always shoot a coat of clear on it to protect the paint.

Thanks, Penetrol was suggested for the paint but I am not familiar with that. The kerosene dispenser is an interesting idea, I was thinking parts washer because of the blue color which was used by socony for the industrial side of the company and there is no way to meter the amount of liquid this dispenses

The kerosene would have been dispensed into a container of known volume ie a quart container, therefore no need for a meter. It has a hasp to lock it up after hours. It's blue because that's a Mobil color.

To protect the paint, you can use Howard's Feed and Wax which can be purchased at Home Depot or Lowes. It is a wax but will bring the colors out in the old paint. Another option is a wipe on patina from Vise Grip Garage. The have matt and
gloss finishes available. Regards, Paul

Thank you, I have searched but can't seem to find any examples. Trying to date this, my thought was 30's and at that time the blue was only used on the industrial side from what I have been able to find.Of course if the era is wrong then who knows
