Continued from the value forum:
Guy I purchased from demonstrated with cleaner wax that other than the typical porcelain hits, the sign shines & looks new! Excite!
The ring & mount need to dealt with to compliment the sign. Is blast & powder painting a good way to go? $$? Don’t want to single side a double sided sign, so thinking about making an articulating mount to rotate from the wall that looks right. No dates on sign. Thoughts on era? Rick

40s-50s sign. I dont think I'd bother powdercoating the frame, most people in here probably say leave as is. I might blast or strip and paint it just because I like to restore. Lots of us have double sided signs we just display one-sided on a wall.

Got to clean the sign to best condition. Would wire wheel & rustoleum hurt value?

I definitely wouldn't use a wire wheel on a porcelain sign, but just as Tankar said, 0000 steel wool and I always use Softscrub myself, and an ample supply of elbow grease!

Sorry was in hurry to post reply. I was using car wax cleaner & looks/shines like new. Would wire wheel & paint on the ring/mount affect value?

Definitely no problem cleaning up the frame and apply some paint to it, in my opinion. Especially if you're keeping it for your own collection. If the frame isn't "awful", I suppose you could keep it mostly "as is", if you feel the frame's patina still matches that of the cleaned-up sign. I would go by your own personal feeling when you view the sigh and frame as a unit. Either way, you're not impacting the overall value, as I see it. John

Got a 8’ wide by 8’ 4” tall wall for this guy. Any pics or suggestions for mounting? Thinking about pallet boards on wall.
