Just wanted to share my first original Pep 88 gas globe and a little bit of the story behind why this means so much to me.
My great-grandfather started operating an Utah oil company service station in Idaho in 1936, and it became his life’s work. My grandfather started working at the station in 1945, eventually taking over the family station in 1958 and running it until 1999. The station was truly his pride and joy.
In 2021, I became my grandfather’s caregiver during his battle with dementia, and over those two years we became best friends. After he passed away in 2023 my family and I went through all of his service station memorabilia and history, and that’s when this journey really started for me.
Before then, I honestly knew almost nothing about the Utah Oil Company or the history behind these stations. I started from absolute zero knowledge. Over the last three years, I’ve spent countless hours researching, learning, and slowly building a collection that helps me feel connected to my grandfather and our family history.
This Pep 88 globe is my first original globe, and I’m beyond excited to finally own one. Hopefully it’s the first of many.
Huge thank you to Peter Crandall for all his knowledge and for answering my endless questions!
