Original 1951 Mobil Pegasus porcelain sign, T-51 date stamp confirmed. Measures 92.5" wide x 69" tall x 3" deep (approximately 8' x 6'). Right-facing, single-sided. Large, highly desirable display piece from a long-term private collection, in storage for 20 years. Family owned for 45+ years.

The sign retains its original porcelain finish with strong color and gloss. A neon system was professionally added decades ago and was fully functional prior to storage. The sign was not originally manufactured as a neon sign — the porcelain was a cookie-cutter wall mount — but the professionally installed neon provides outstanding display presence and has become part of the sign's character.

Condition
Honest collector-grade example with age and wear consistent with a large original porcelain sign of this era — perimeter chipping at standoff locations, light shelving in the red field, and yellowing along the white border. The porcelain has not been repainted or restored.

One section of the sign — appears to be part of a leg or tail — was sourced from another original Mobil Pegasus at some point in its history. No documentation exists regarding when that occurred. To the eye it integrates well and is not immediately apparent, but the disclosure belongs in the listing.

Neon and Display
The neon tubing was removed and packed separately when the sign was crated for storage approximately 20 years ago. Transformer and mounting hardware are included. Reinstallation requires a qualified neon shop or experienced installer to test the tubes, verify the transformer, and remount the system. Buyer should plan for inspection and likely re-tubing if any tubes are damaged from storage; transformer may need replacement after 20 years of dormancy.

Shipping
The sign is already crated and ready for transport. Happy to coordinate pickup with the buyer's shipper. Crate is large and would need to be shipped via freight.

...also, this is rather confusing: which part was added to what? I mean, the legs and tail are detachable - are you saying part of another tail was added to the tail, or part of a leg was added to one of the legs?

The sign belonged to my Dad. He bought it as-is about 45 years ago with the neon installed. We do not know when the neon was actually put on and do not have that history.. It looks like the neon tube supports are screwed into the sign face. It's very well done and the neon is aligned nicely with the lines of the sign/horse. The neon is bright and vivid and the red porcelain is impressive and great color. I'm by no means an expert on these signs, but trying to describe the best I can.

Regarding the piece that may be from a different sign -- from the back of the sign, I can't remember exactly which piece (the tail or one of the legs) is cleaner looking than the back of the rest of the sign, leading us to believe that piece may be from a different sign. From the front, the piece doesn't appear to be noticeably different.

No, the sign is not mounted on a can. This is an original porcelain cookie-cutter sign with the 3" wrap around on the back of the sign to form the cookie-cutter. Not sure how else to describe it. The neon is mounted directly on the sign, which is all one piece.
