Well in honor of the upcomming Holidays I'm going to run a little contest this month. You can post any Petro map you wish. This leaves it wide open for everyone.

I'm going to pick 1 winner from all submitted posts to receive a prize. The more posts we get the more prizes I'll add for the winner. Please bare in mind that the prize(s) will be comming from my own personal collection which is kind of limited.

You can post as many maps as you wish.I will be choosing the winner from all entries posted on this topic. It doesn't have to be a rare or unusual map but that'll help your chances at winning.

If you need help posting a map email me a picture of it along with your name & I'll be happy to post it for you.

The contest will end on January 1st 2007.

Here's what the starting prize is:

This is a NOS Baum's polish counter display.Dick Bennet has graciously offer the following as an additional prize to the winner.4 1qt lids w/ return postage. As most of you have seen db does amazing work relidding quart cans.

For something to look forward to If we reach 100 post on this thread I'll put a globe in the prize kitty.

After 25 posts I'll add something to the prize kitty so lets see some really cool maps this month The sky is the limit here.

THIS IS WHAT I LIKE....A CONTEST THAT REALLY KICKS SOME SERIOUS MAP! I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHO THE WINNER IS OF MAP POSTING INVENTORY. IS IT ABOUT POSTS OR NUMBER OF MAPS POSTED. FOR EXAMPLE IF I HAD 100 MAPS I COULD POST 4 MAPS EACH IN 25 POSTS, OR I COULD POST 50 MAPS EACH IN 2 POSTS....OF COURSE THE DETAILS IN THESE MAPS WOULD BE HORRIBLE! LOL! I THINK I JUST EXPLAINED IT TO MYSELF AND I'M GOOD TO GO AND BETTER SELF-INFORMED. OKAY I'LL SHUUUUUUUT-UP!

Well, I guess I'll give this a try...

I've gone through and scanned some of my favorite map images.

Let's start with some Marathons. I like these because I'm a big fan of the porcelain 3-bay stations...

Zooming in shows a beautifully detailed image...

My single favorite map is the Diamond 760 compass rose... (sorry it would barely fit on the scanner bed...)

I've always liked the Conoco "Hottest brand going" campaign for the neat and colorful images on the map backs. Here are a couple good examples...

Here are some unusual ones:

Here's a Standard Service. I like the attendant and the pump on the back.

Here's an Esso with a scene from my home state of Louisiana:

Probably not grand prize winners, but the Sinclair five fold maps have always been a favorite of mine.

Richfield put out some nice maps as well.

I gotta put in for my top five:

Parco of Missouri
1925 Standard Oil of Georgia
1925 Standard Oil of Alabama
General Petroleum/Parabase of Western U.S.
Diamond of Iowa

Vern
