Hey Guys & Gals,
It's time to share the petro relics that we've stumbled across in our recent travels, and check out what other people have found as well.
If you would like to contribute to this feature, simply post the pictures here or email them directly to me and I will post them for you. Be sure to include a story or description with your subissions.
If it's too close to the next installment, please note that I may hold your contribution for posting when the new FATW comes up on the 5th day of each month. Send 'em in!!
Happy trails!
Wes

Let's start out this month with some pictures from a little cruise along Route 66 in Northern Illinois. Here's a very cool restored Texaco station. Here's a little writeup above the front door:

And, right down the road... Nice, straight old Tok 36! I've posted a photo of this Standard station in the past, but what the heck... It too is right on old 66. Volunteers have done a nice job restoring this building, which was falling down when they started. It was at one time a Sinclair station. The garages were added later - the original building was a typical 1920s cottage design.

Here's one of my favorites. A porcelain Marathon 3-bay station. Not in the best shape, but I can see through all the paint and abuse. I wish someone would restore a 3-bay porcelain Marathon someday... Here's a neat old 50s porcelain Texaco. It's got a pretty big awning, probably for trucks. Check out the in-ground air hose reels (added later - the islands have been repoured). I've never seen one of these. [This message has been edited by thermactor (edited 06-05-2007).]

When was the last time you saw a yard full of pumps like these? Check out the St. Louis! It has a built-in gallon counter, driven by a float and chain. The door on top opens, revealing number wheels.

Here's an old Sinclair station, also on old 66. The mission-style tiles on the roof would have been Sinclair green. What a beautiful building! Tara spotted this big fiberglass Dino on top of an old station:

We ran across this really neat old station in a rather unlikely location. It's in the middle of a residential area in Bloomington, IL. I believe, though, that the street out front was at one time an alignment of old 66. It must have been some type of a hotel/gas station combo? Maybe a truck stop? I'm not really sure. Neat island lights, and great Tudor styling. And this little cottage is right across the street:

Here's one from our own Brian Reitz (tokheim) -------- Hi Wes, I thought I'd share these pictures with you and see if you wanted to put them on FATW. I put a post on the daily check in some time back with a picture from the cover of a Cabelas mag. and said I wondered where it was from. Rod contacted me with the location, and then the next day took the time to take these pictures and send them to me. He agreed that I could send them to you or post them for the group. Super nice thing to do! Regards, Brian aka Tok

this is where"mildred the pump lady"lives. i bought my first pump from her.some of you may have met her years ago,she is in richmond off route 12.although she doesnt have much left.when her late husband was alive i think they sold many pumps from here, and probably some nice ones.she is a very nice lady, but a little too high in price these days.the horse is not for sale, but just about everything else is.still,a cool place to visit.
