I bought this on ebay in May. I had to drive down to south east Kansas to pick it up.I hauled it home on a 10' long snowmobile trailer.....all 18' of it! It was quite a sight.I sanded the pole with a belt sander, primed it & applied 2 top coats.I finally got the hole dug & poured concrete 2 weeks ago. My buddy brought his skid steer over last Friday night & we raised it up. It fell into place like it was made to fit.(it was) The car is parked there to hide the pile of dirt that I haven't moved yet! Plus, I think it looks pretty cool.

Give us some details on the hole... how deep hole, how wide is the hole, size bolts?

I have the same sign in my barn.

Looking for anything from Hoosier Pete, Platolene 500 and Red Bird.

Scott I love it when I see a sign like that in the air and lit up. It means that another sign has escaped the salvage yard. Now you can start looking for another one. Looks great. Norm Huff

Thanks for all the favorable comments.I've been wanting to put up one of these BIG signs for quite some time now. (dreams do come true!) Next in line is a 1936 4'x 4' Socony-Vacuum shield hanging on a fluted pole. Then there's the 66 shield, STANDARD SERVICE sign, porcelain MOBILGAS letters, etc., etc....Too many signs, not enough time!
Note to Bob Kidney....EN45 is my grid square. Amateur radio is my other hobby. I live in the village of Glen Flora right on Hwy.8. The town is so small, we're only on one side of the highway!
Note to John Jarvis....I searched the web for a long time to find information on what it would take to support this sign.I even emailed TEXACO...got no responce.I finally found installation plans at the University of N.Dakota...Fargo.They sent me plans dated 1936 and later revised in 1952. They recommend a footing 3'x 2'9" x 4'6" deep. The bolts are 1" diameter x 3' long. I welded them to a rebar cage to keep them in place during the pour. The plans also give the painting & wiring specs with a bill of materials! If you want a copy shoot me an email.

Here's a night time view taken from the second floor of my house. If you look close you can see the pile of dirt is still there!!Hey, Rome wasn't built in a day.

Special thanks to nochevys for the tutorial on posting pictures. I could not have done it with out you.
