Dick got us started off with an awesome globe! Clipper Oil Company was based in Seattle. Mobil bought Clipper in the 40's and kept it as a secondary brand. This globe dates from the 1940's.
The Mobilgas and Mobilgas Ethyl globes with the familiar pegasus were used from the mid-1930's until 1962. They are from Socony-Vacuum. These globes can be found with black or blue lettering. There are variations in the size of the lettering too. These two are on metal bodies. Regular glass bodies, gill, ballcrank, and capco bodies were used too.
Also pictured is a blunt nose White Eagle globe that would date from 24-32.
The Socony Special has the lettering fired on the outside of the lens. Dick reports that the other side of a globe that used this lens would possibly have been the Socony shield. The Socony Special lens dates from the 1922-26 period.
Thanks for posting these great globes Dick.
Anyone have some of the glass or plastic body versions of the Mobilgas globes they can post? How about an oval Clipper globe? Bob

More great globes Dick!
The White Eagle pictured is the "pointed nose" or "crow" version. It was used from the from the late 1920's until 1937. White Eagle was bought out by SOCONY in 1930. The White Eagle brand survived until the late 30's.
The Metro globe dates from the 1935-40 era. Metro was bought by Socovy-Vacuum in 1934. The Metro name lived on as a motor grade (sub-regular) at Mobilgas stations until after the war.
Thanks for sharing these globes. Bob

Here are three that haven't been posted yet. The Mobilgas is from Vacuum Oil Co and is 16 1/2 inch metal. The two others are your typical 13 1/2 capco plastic.

Dwaine's Mobilgas Special globe is from Socony-Vacuum. It dates from '36-'62.
Don's oval Clipper globe dates from the 1940's. There are only a few oval globes with great graphics and this is one of them.
Gary's Mobilgas globe is from the early 30's. The Mobilfuel Diesel was used from the 50's through '62. It's a pretty rare globe. The Mobilgas Special is from the '55-'62 era.
Thanks for posting these wonderful globes! Bob

Hubba's Mobil Premium dates from 1962-66.
The Mobilgas Special is from '36-'62.
The Pegasus is one of the most recognizable logos ever used. What were they thinking back in the 60's when they dropped it?
Thanks for sharing these globes Hubba.
There's a ton more Mobil globes out there. How 'bout posting a few? Anyone have a Gargoyle? Bob

Mobil is one of my main interests, the other is Standard Oil of Kentucky (KYSO). Here are some of our Mobil Globes: These next 3 globes are foreign. The square one is from England. The small etched one was used in France in 1930. The next one has a black porcelain frame. This is a european Mobil Lens. The Pegasus faces rite and the lens is flatter than ours are. ------------------ [This message has been edited by rext@worldnet.att.net (edited 03-18-2003).] [This message has been edited by rext@worldnet.att.net (edited 03-18-2003).] [This message has been edited by rext@worldnet.att.net (edited 03-18-2003).] [This message has been edited by rext@worldnet.att.net (edited 03-18-2003).] [This message has been edited by rext@worldnet.att.net (edited 03-18-2003).] [This message has been edited by rext@worldnet.att.net (edited 03-18-2003).]

Here are some more of my Mobil globes: The Mobil Marine White is the only one known at this time. Most of them just say Marine. The Mobilgas Green was only made for one year 1932-1933. There aren't very many of these around. The Mobilgas Aircraft was used between 1935 and 1962. The Whadams Giant was used from 1932 to 1940. ------------------ [This message has been edited by rext@worldnet.att.net (edited 03-18-2003).] [This message has been edited by rext@worldnet.att.net (edited 03-18-2003).]

Great globes Rex!!!!!!
Some of these are quite rare.
The Gargoyle oval is an oil cabinet globe. It was used from 1920-35.
The "W" globe is a lightpost globe from Wadhams. It's from the teens.
The Metro globe is from the 1940-55 era.
Standard Kerosene was from Socony. Its from '34-'40 period.
Mobilheat Stove Oil dates from '55-'62. The Mobilgas Aircraft is another great globe.
The Marine White is an amazing globe! Its from the '50-'62 era.
The Mobilgas with green letters is from Vacuum Oil.
The Socony globe dates from the mid-20's to the mid-30's.
Thanks for sharing these great globes with us Rex.
Even with all the globes that have been pictured, there are still many more globes fromn Mobil and their affiliates. Anyone have any Magnolia or General globes they can post? How about Bartles or Gilmore? Bob

Richard Weir sent me these pictures. The first globe is the familiar White Eagle that was used from '24-'32. The second is from SOCONY and dates from the teens through 1926. The Staroline/White Star Ethyl is a rare globe from the 1926-'30 era. The Mobilgas Ethyl is another rare globe. It was only used for a few years in the mid-1930's. This White Star globe is extremely rare. It was from 1918-1920 era. Thanks Richard for sharing these great globes! We still have a couple weeks to post more Mobil and affiliates globes. Hi all - I just got this original Mobilgas Marine lens. I would like to find a body it fits to light it up. Its just shy of 17" ( bigger than 16 1/2") Is this a rare size? or did they just round down and say 16 1/2" bodies. I know they make 16 1/2" repop bodies but want to make sure this will fit before I buy one. Any thoughts? Thanks Hubba [This message has been edited by djhubba (edited 04-01-2003).]

Great lens Hubba! Any marine globe is rare. This one is really rare. Turns out Hubba's lens has an outline around the pegasus. Instead of being the second known of the non-outlined version, its the first known outlined version in the 16 1/2" size! Its probably a little newer than the non-outlined version. I couldn't see the outline in the picture. Sorry about the mistake. Bob
Hubba, in the words of Crash Davis (Kevin Costner in Bull Durham)"When you speak of me, speak highly". (Hubba will know what I'm talkin about). Pops
